Spider Solitaire (2 Suits)
Two-suit Spider Solitaire uses two decks made of only spades and hearts. It is the middle difficulty of Spider: noticeably harder than one suit, because a run can only be moved as a unit when it is all one suit, but far more winnable than the four-suit game. Most regular players consider it the most satisfying way to play.
Spider Solitaire (2 Suits) Rules
104 cards (eight sets of spades and hearts) are dealt into ten columns: 54 cards face down with the top card of each column face up, and 50 cards left in the stock.
You can place any card on a card one rank higher, regardless of suit, but only a sequence that is all the same suit can be moved together. A complete King-to-Ace run of one suit is removed from the table, and removing all eight runs wins the game.
When you run out of moves, deal ten cards from the stock, one onto each column. Every column must hold at least one card before you can deal.
Spider Solitaire (2 Suits) Strategy & Tips
Prefer same-suit builds
When you have a choice, put a card on a same-suit card one rank higher. Mixed-suit stacks are legal but they lock cards in place, because you can't move a mixed run as a unit.
Empty a column early
An empty column is the most powerful tool in Spider. Use it to untangle mixed stacks and to rebuild runs in a single suit, and avoid filling it with a lone low card.
Turn over face-down cards first
Before dealing from the stock, make every move that exposes a hidden card. Each new card you reveal adds options, while a fresh deal covers everything again.
Use undo to explore
Two-suit games often hinge on one choice. When two moves look equal, try one, see what it reveals, and undo if it leads nowhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 2-suit Spider Solitaire hard?
It is moderately hard. Skilled players win a large share of 2-suit games with careful play, compared with almost every 1-suit game and a small share of 4-suit games.
Which suits are used in 2-suit Spider?
Spades and hearts, four copies of each suit, for 104 cards in total.
Can I switch between 1, 2, and 4 suits?
Yes. The suit buttons above the table start a new game with the number of suits you choose, and your best times are tracked separately for each.
Why can't I deal more cards?
Standard Spider rules require every column to have at least one card before dealing from the stock. Move a card into any empty column first.
