TriPeaks Solitaire

TriPeaks is a single-player solitaire game built around three overlapping pyramids of cards. It became widely known after appearing in Microsoft's solitaire collections. The goal is to clear every pyramid card by playing it onto a single waste pile in ascending or descending sequence.

TriPeaks Solitaire Rules

Eighteen cards are dealt face-down and face-up to form three peaks, with a fully exposed bottom row of ten cards. The rest of the deck becomes the stock, and one card is flipped to start the waste pile.

On each turn you may move any fully uncovered peak card to the waste pile if it is exactly one rank higher or lower than the current top card, regardless of suit. Aces wrap to both Kings and Twos. Removing a card uncovers any card it was sitting on.

When no legal move exists, flip a card from the stock onto the waste pile to set a new target rank. You win by clearing all three peaks before the stock runs out; long unbroken runs build the highest scores.

TriPeaks Solitaire Strategy & Tips

Hunt for long chains

Before tapping a card, scan for runs like 5-6-7-8 that you can play in sequence without touching the stock. Chaining cards multiplies your score and clears peaks faster.

Open all three peaks early

Prioritize moves that uncover the face-down peak tips. A buried peak card can trap the whole pyramid, so spread your clearing across all three structures.

Save the stock as fuel

Every stock flip is a resource you can't recover. Exhaust all board moves before drawing, so each flip opens the most new options.

Plan around Aces and Kings

Aces connect to both Kings and Twos, making them flexible pivots. Hold an exposed Ace until it bridges a gap you couldn't otherwise cross.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TriPeaks solitaire always winnable?

No. Many deals are solvable, but some shuffles leave key cards buried with no path to clear them. Skilled play wins a large share but not all.

Do suits matter in TriPeaks?

No. Only rank matters — you play a card one higher or one lower than the waste pile top, ignoring suit and color entirely.

How is TriPeaks scored?

You earn points for each card cleared, with a growing streak bonus for consecutive cards played without drawing from the stock. Breaking the streak resets the multiplier.

Can an Ace be played on a King?

Yes. The ranks wrap around, so an Ace can follow a King or a Two. This is what lets you build runs across the top and bottom of the deck.
